Why I’m Using Bear Automotive in Cottonwood

by Jason Shultz on July 22, 2009

As many of you are aware, I have this wonderful little car that I refuse to let die. Me and it have been through a lot together. It’s a 95 Dodge Neon Sport. It’s a sporty little two door that get’s 35 mpg on the freeway (40 with a good tail wind). But, as with any older vehicle sometimes it needs work. Since it’s paid for I don’t mind so much. It’s cheaper then a car payment and the car is still comfortable and fun to drive so why not?

Anyway, sometimes it has to go to the shop and get something done. As anyone will tell you it’s hard to find a good repair shop. I think sometimes people are more paranoid about finding a repair shop then they are a doctor. Have you seen the stats on medical mistakes? SCARY?! Fortunately, I’ve found a great repair shop and I’m going to tell you my opinion why.

I don’t know everything there is to know about cars. Ask anyone in my family and they’ll tell you. If it’s on the Internet then I can. I could give you a history of TCP/IP and PING that would put you to sleep. But, with cars, I know enough to be dangerous. Luckily, the guys over at Bear Automotive understand that and have never taken advantage of that.

For example, recently I though I needed new struts on my car. I was pretty sure either they or the strings had wore out. I called them up and told them what I was thinking and they said bring it on by and they’d check. The next day I brought it over within two minutes they determined it was fine. Basically, I have a small car and it’s normal behavior I was experiencing.

The point is, they could have easily fed into my fears that my struts were wearing out and sell me a new set. Then they’d get to install them, realign the tires, etc and rack up some fees. Instead, they were honest with me and treated me fairly. I thought that was really good.

It’s not the first time either. I had a small leak in the hose leading into the radiator. I was having trouble finding it and brought it by. Again, in less then 5 minutes it was fixed and they sent me on my way. They didn’t even charge me!

In this business environment when companies are looking for any excuse to bill someone for something it is interesting when you find a company that’s not. They could have easily hit me with a 15 minute or (gasp!) 30 minute minimum for that. But, they didn’t. Why? Because they have good ethics and understand word of mouth advertising. They knew that by treating me fairly I was way more apt to go and spread the word about how fairly I was treated. I still gave him some money for their time because I respected his time. But, I’ve also told that story multiple times whenever the subject of getting a car worked on came up.

Good, honest, ethical business practices should always be a goal of your business.
